Complete Character History
(in journal format)
The following is my journal and notes on my travels as part of the “Concentric Order.” I shall keep notes of all the things I encounter, especially those of a magikal nature. This journal will be for mine own reference and not part of the reports I send.
Graduating from the Mage Academy and moving into the ranks of the Mage Corps was not much of a change. My assignment was to remain at the Theoretical Magik Division and assist in research. My primary duties were to utilize all Karandian Libraries I could access and find mention of spells and magik that we are not now able to cast or performer. Though the research is slow and tedious, I enjoyed my time at "Theory."
A great long list I had compiled. My superiors were pleased by the results. Three years of service had passed during my research and I had achieved the rank of Corporal. During that time, I had also assisted in research and application of new spells for the Mage-soldiers of the Army and occasionally was chosen to deliver the information and research to the instructors as well as assist them in training of the new spells.
Overall, as the Talons go, I suppose I was luckier than many of the more combat oriented Talons. My tenure within the Mage Corps was rather non-stressful.
After I had spent two terms in the service of Karandia, I elected not to re-enlist.
As a member of House Falkner, and experienced in the ways of Magik, I was selected to substitute for an ailing Member of the Mage Council at Traau. Erin Rutledge fell ill in early May 499, and I took her seat, intending to relinquish it to her when her health recovered.
Erin Rutledge’s health continued to decline until October of 499. She died, shortly before Griffin Lucian Wyndham passed away.
It seemed there was a great restructuring in the works. The Mage Council was in turmoil. The position of Griffin was offered to a young mage that apparently had ideas considered outrageous to many of the traditionalists in the Council. Tarrik of House Aldarian would be the new Griffin of Magik, and head of the Mage Council.
At this time, I was replaced by a more senior member of House Falkner. Kurtis Falkner was supportive of the new Griffin, and carried more political weight than did I.
My intent was to return to studies within the Libraries of Traau. That was a very short-lived hope.
Shortly after my replacement on the Council, I was contacted and asked to report to Mage Talon Headquarters. Myself and eight other former Yellow Talon soldiers were present. We were directed to the office of Captain Mathias and Major Bradwick Chessington, head of Black Talon.
Once we were all present, he showed us a little remembered contract that we had all signed upon our initial entry into the Mage Corps. The contract indicated that, should the Army of Karandia have need of our services, (as Mage Soldiers are far fewer than their sword wielding brethren) Karandia could call us back to service if warranted.
We were re-enlisted.
Essentially, we were told that we were the only ones suited at this time to performer a task for Karandia.
I was surprised that much of the knowledge that my comrades and I had painstakingly uncovered at "Theory" was the basis of the mission now before us.
Concentric Order
There was to be a new order established to better study and work outside the normal confines and structures of the current military and governmental paradigm. We would be known as the “Concentric Order.”
Our orders are as follows:
"Thou art to be reinstated at thy previous rank within Yellow Talon and returned to the service of Karandia.
"Thou art to locate and obtain elements of magik, heretofore lost or unknown by the current scholars, wizards and mages of Karandia. Items, events, enchantments, languages, locations or remains of worth, are to be noted, and or studied, and or guarded, and or collected as deemed appropriate by the Order.
"Thou art to travel the lands of Xaria and beyond if necessary to performe thy mission.
"Thou art not required to wear thy colors as a Karandian Mage Soldier unless necessary, though should the situation benefit or require, thy compliance is suggested. Therefore, thou art to possess thy colors at all times during thy travels.
"We understand the nature and the methods of your specialty. This mission is not an urgent one and you are not required to proceed at haste. Merely performer thy duties and send reports of progress at one month intervals.
"Thou shalt be provided a stipend to assist in thy mission. Therefore, regular reports are urged, so that you receive your stipend.
“You are to do nothing to provoke aggression with a foreign land.
"Your service is not only for the benefit of Karandia.
"These orders come from Lord Aldarian, Griffin of Magik, and are signed by King Pembroke.
"For Karandia, for magik, for knowledge."
In the instance that Karandia is no longer at peace, we are to return to report for duty.
Armed with my knowledge of magik, and research in arcane and lost magik, I have set out into the world to find what I can.
And so it is that I begin my newest quest. I journey to the land of Quivera in search of one of its many dukes. Specifically, I search for Duke Avant of Listwich.
According to my research and a document I have in my possession (though written in a magikal script) the Duke may have the first answer to my current goal.
On the 25th of November I boarded the Karandian Naval ship, the "Clarkson," named after the Griffin of the Navy, some 150 years ago. The voyage should give me some time to think.
The first goal I shall seek out is the legendary "Eye of Creer." The tales surrounding the Eye have us believe that it allows the holder to view all worlds, including worlds that do not yet exist. From a bedraggled document that I possess, I have extracted the following information to be true as possible given the circumstances and assuming the legend to be true:
-The Eye of Creer is a clear, cut gem, nearly the size of a man's fist, and set within a tooled golden medallion.
The Eye, in most of the tales and legends, allows he whom holds it to view all the worlds. Jeanót, the savior of Salaun, looked into the world of things yet to pass to save the Hamlet of Salaun from certain destruction by the goblyns. Mazala's love was slain in the Battle of the Standing Stones. She used the Eye to seek him out in the world of the dead. The sorceress known as Leora of the Glenn, with the aide of the Eye, witnessed happenings in the realm of the Fey and aided them in defeating a Dark Fey plot. Baldemar the Mighty single-handedly defeated Yaron and his horde of zombies. Yaron was using the Eye to discern secrets from the Daemonic plane for his evil intent.
One could postulate that many other worlds might be seen through this magikal stone... if the facts are correct.
If the Eye of Creer is real then we must assume either 1) the stone or assembly in medallion form was created by wizards or 2) was created bye and other-worldly force, such as Creer.
We know that items of this nature do not simply exist, they are created. If a wizard or wizards created the Eye, then they used magik. If the Eye was created bye an otherworldly power then a power resembling magik, or magik in its purest state was used.
In either case, extensive study would or could reveal the origins of the Eye. If created by spells, then study could reveal them, and once known, then researched and learned.
If created by the direct power of Creer or another higher source of magik, then it too can be studied and the basic magik can be understood. Once understood, progress could begin toward the creation of a spell of the same function.
Recently a rumor has surfaced that one of Duke Avant's quests has uncovered the Eye of Creer and it even now rests in his castle.
It is my hope to turn his ear to my cause and allow my request to study the Eye.
This sketch is based on story descriptions of the Eye:
large, clear stone,
said to be one hand width
inscription;
possibly a prayer to Creer
gold ornamentation and size of stone would create a vast weight, item would need be a decorative piece set in a pedestal or containing its own base
The 8th of December
We have weighed anchor in Kurastan, the Quiveran capital city. The Clarkson will sail on to Akkoria on the morrow.
My inquiries have led me to a decent inn that will also arrange a coach to Listwich. I am told that this journey, even bye a fast coach will be at least three days of travel.
I will be resting on the night of the 11th in his Duchy at an inn called "the Red Rose." The following day I shall seek his audience.
December 11, 499
The Red Rose Inn harbored a great many travelers from distant places. One was an older mother traveling alone and speaking of a strange inn. This inn, according to her account (though at times she did seem a bit mad) bore no furnishings other than a simple altar. Magikally, their plates, mugs & bottles were filled by no creature and all within the span of an eye's blink. Such a force of magik would be powerful indeed to create a meal from the merest and simplest essence of magik. Her tale claims this inn to be in DeMekrium. It certainly bears looking into.
I also encountered an Elf named Garnett, whom had no love of music nor trees nor pleasantries, or so it seemed.
A priest of Creer, who was called Fage, was nearly assassinated. Fage was poisoned and then pushed downer a tall set of stairs by a follower of the Goddess of Spiders… whose actual name I cannot seem to recall. This man (I was surprised at his being human when I later discovered his worship) was very guarded and barely keeping himself on the polite side of hostility throughout the evening. I should not like to meet him again.
One of the strangest encounters was later in the evening shortly after the arrival of the new Lord of the fiefdom, Sir Garret Luchasi. It seems that long ago a woman drowned in the nearby swamps and has ever since haunted the Red Rose. This apparition floated through the inn and disrupted the dinner, conversation and pleasantry of the night and, from what I surmised, haunted both the new Lord Garret and the old Lord Horatio.
Shortly thereafter, the ghost left.
I was unable to gather more knowledge regarding this save for the same folktale of the woman's death.
During the manifestation of the drowned spirit, I was given a scroll by one of the travelers… whose name escapes me.
It seems that the documents contained in the scroll are three. Two smaller parchments and one large. The large parchment is a letter addressed to a “Fellow Crafter.” It describes the two smaller documents scarce copies of the “Verses of Rubeus the Mad,” a great necromancer of the past. The writer, “Betzalel,” has tried to glean meaning from the pages and has met with failure. He sent the letter and parchments in the hopes that his ally could use or decipher them. He sends his regards to the “cabal.”
The documents are mere pieces torn from a larger work. It is unknown what all this pertains to. As of yet. The documents make references to the City of Kessid and the walls of Tronoth. We know Kessid to be the capital of Irroquin and we know that Tronoth was once the capital of Gesnor; it is not unreasonable to assume that this was written before Tronoth was lost by way of the volcano. That would date the documents earlier than 312 AY. Other references are “Cauderax, the Flame which burns and melts,” several references to “the Gate,” “The Piper, He Who Plays and Beckons Forth,” and apparently Rubeus’ master named “Nicodemus.” Also, “When Chelford stood, defiant and alive,” and “Toxus, Lord of Plague and Bile.”
The whole of the document seems to speak of portents of doom for cities and perhaps even all of Xaria. It speaks of many daemons or powerful creatures that will bring the end of many places and people.
I shall continue to attempt to decipher these pages and when I am able, I shall research it further in better library’s than I have access to now.
December 12th, 499
The afternoon brought yet another cloudy sky and snow and difficult travel. Bye the time I reached the castle of Duke Avant, the hour of 8 evening had passed.
I was well received bye the staff and given a small but comfortable room to bed downer for the night.
December 13th, 499
I was given to explore the common areas of the castle during my wait for my audience with the Duke. His great hall was filled with wonders from Xaria, paintings from many lands, including a hauntingly familiar landscape by a painter called Papillion. His castle was furnished with tapestry’s depicting ancient battles and weapons that I conclude to be magikal or at least historically significant.
Eventually, my audience was granted. The Duke was a personable man. We spoke at length about magik. He seemed to be, at least, perfunctorily schooled in the concepts of magik.
He declined my request, however, for the time being. I was bade, spend another night as his guest. December 14, 499
The Duke sought me out in the common dining hall during the morning meal.
Duke Avant talked with me as we walked through the private wing of his castle. He explained to me that he had received news on the morning he spoke to me, that one of his sponsored quests would be returning nearer to the first week of the New Year.
This quest was sent to retrieve a lesser daemon. He told me that they were equipped with two capable wizards as well as several brave and strong warriors. This band traveled to the dark reaches of Fer-Garruth to retrieve the daemon. The tale took a strange turn when he did tell me that in the process of capturing this daemon, the wizards both lost their lives, though they were successful in capturing it. He entreated me stay at his castle during the harsh winter months and help his questors to uncover the strange daemon's secrets.
I accepted.
December 15th, 499
I have learned that the Duke knows very little about the Eye of Creer, though he has some few parchments referring to it that I was allowed to read.
January 3, 500
The passing of the last year to the new one was a festival of amazing proportions in the Purple Duchy. Duke Avant arranged a festival in the small town outside his castle. I daresay nearly a thousand people took part in the drinking, dancing, and general falderal.
January 8, 500
The quest has returned and their care was arranged immediately. The most pressing matter was Brenan. I have come to discover that he was a sort of gladiatorial fighter from the isle of Shorn.
While they were attempting to capture this lesser daemon, their efforts seemed to destroy its worldly form. It took magikal possession of Brenan's body during the final fight.
Brenan has been locked away in a stone cell, deep under the castle.
March 24th, 500
I have been keeping notes for Duke Avant separate from my journal, that he may retain them after I depart.
During the month of February, I had the pleasure of the company of Nelson, another of my companions from Karandia on a similar mission. His aide was priceless in the matters of darker magik.
The summations of mye discoveries were actually quite basic after all the research has been completed. The daemon they thought was of a lesser caste was actually quite powerful, perhaps even one of the greater daemons of the dark planes. The wizards exhausted themselves in their attempt to control a magik that was easily more powerful than both of them together. The warriors combating the daemon eventually destroyed the worldly form. In its last moments alive it has slain the wizards exchanged minds with Brenan.
Sadly, Brenan would have been trapped in the form of the daemon and subsequently perished when its form was destroyed. There was little I could do except learn from this experience and hope to be able to prevent such a thing should I encounter it another time.
April 2nd, 500
I left the company of Duke Avant and his staff the morning of the 28th of March.
I have sent my most recent report home, and now I am in a mild quandary as to my direction. I am headed toward Port Kurastan. From there I shall be able to head to any destination I choose.
April 15th, 500
Fortune has favored me today. I have spent the night at an inn and found a most strange posting.
Though I consider myself neither brave nor adventurous, the phrasing of the quest intrigues me and I shall search out Daemir Du Gul of the Blue Duchy of Quivera.
April 20th, 500
After arriving in the Blue Duchy, it was quite easy to locate the Manor of Lord Du Gul. Once off the Tradesman Highway, it took a half-day to reach his small fiefdom. It was a quiet, rolling, hilled countryside in which it seems to never stop raining. I reached the manor at sunset.
At the door I was met, after some time, by a manservant whom, after explanations of my purpose, left me in the well decorated audience hall. When he finally returned, I am told that Lord Du Gul is occupied and cannot see me until the morrow. I am given lodgings for the night. It does seem strange to me that the only person in the manor I have seen is the manservant.
April 21st, 500
Today I have discovered guards watching workers rebuild a mosaic floor and ceiling, and carrying furniture into the once sparse manor.
Yet again I am informed that Lord Du Gul is unable to meet me.
While writing this entry, I am nearly convinced that there is a strange type of bat or magikal bird that lives in this region, for I caught a glimpse of such a creature on the sill of my window.
April 22nd, 500
Today I have met the Lord of this fiefdom of the Blue Duchy. Lord Daemir Du Gul questioned me at great length about my desire to take this quest. Our discussion covers my past and my time with the Yellow Talon and how I came to be traveling through the land of Quivera.
Though I am careful to leave out any indication of my underlying efforts in the lands of Xaria.
An old enemy of Lord Du Gul's mentor has been experimenting in unusual extra-planar magik. Lord Du Gul's mentor has asked him to investigate this magik.
Imagine my surprise to see that Lord Du Gul is as much a student of magik as I.
Much of our discussion that night was about his research and methods of traveling dimensions of the "Multiverse." The multiverse concept was something that I had only encountered a few times whilst I was at "Theory." A few of the mages there experimented in dimensional magik.
April 23rd, 500
It seems I am the first of the adventurers to accept the offer. I suspect that others will be arriving soon enough. Or so I hope. It may turn to be difficult if it just Lord Du Gul and myself. After having been through training, I know the value of having a swordsman in front of you.
Lord Du Gul tells me that his preparations, several weeks along already, will take more weeks to finish.
May 2nd, 500
I have been perusing his library. I have the distinct impression that this is merely the main library and he has more books elsewhere. The majority of the library consists of texts from the University of Raslowe. Nevertheless, I shall be spending my time researching what I can to aide the quest in this "Multiversal" adventure.
Over the past several nights we have been discussing the nature of magik and other magikal lore at dinners and over Quiveran wine.
And when we are finally all assembled, he will discuss the particulars of the quest with us.
May 7th, 500
The adventure is passed, and I am left with strange recollections.
I met two other mages, named Ayd and Periwinkle, as well as a warrior named Dusty, who joined the quest. We three, along with Daemir traveled half a day’s distance from Du Gul Manor. Daemir’s preparations indicated the proper place for his spell to be cast, and we arrived with not a problem.
Stewart, Dusty, Periwinkle, Aodh and Daemir, May 500
Daemir explained to the assembled “adventurers” that his mentor’s enemy was none other than Duke Fruge of the Silver Duchy. Quite a surprise to stumble upon such politics in my journey.
It seemed that Fruge was in possession of an artifact called the “world heart.” This artifact would allow him to create and control a small “pocket” dimension. Beyond this knowledge, Daemir could not speculate, nor could he speculate the Duke’s purpose for doing so.
In essence, we were his spies. I would venture to say that made me a double spy… of sorts.
After his explanations and my research, I believe fully that even the entire Mage Council of Traau would be hard pressed to send several persons through the reality field to another dimension.
Daemir, however, had found an interesting solution to the problem of magikal power to enter the dimension.
Daemir’s spell would put us all to sleep and he would guide our astral forms through the realm of dreaming into this dimension. We would be sustained by our own magikal and physical strength. We would return very weak.
Before we left, he bestowed us our pay; several gems and a rune of protection. My particular rune protects me from spells that bend the mind (specifically those spells that try to cause one to befriend another).
The other dimension, as remembered through a dream was a strange place. We encountered goblins, hobgoblyins, orcs, ogres, and all types of monsters working together. The people we met were dressed strangely and most were fighters with crossbows. Those that could indeed cast magik used small book-like boxes to focus their magikal energy.
We were also joined by a late arrival sent by Daemir. She was an Elf named Evanesce.
We discovered the “world heart” and helped defeat Duke Fruge’s plan. Apparently, the Duke’s plan was to raise an army of monsters in this strange reflection of Xaria, and bring them to our world. He could do so without being discovered. Once his army was amassed, he could march on all the lands. Once I understood where he was and how he was controlling the world (quite a powerful artifact indeed) I calculated the best plan, given our assets.
A handful of the adventurers left their world through the portal Fruge intended his army to use. Once back in Xaria, they obtained the “world heart” and brought it back. And from there, they would have been able to end the trouble.
The problem was that the world heart was in the possession of a daemon. In order to get the world heart, two of the new Xarians had to offer their souls in exchange.
In the process of all this we rescued Auberick from a magikal entrapment. Later that night we all reveled in drink and song and dance in the company of the Fey.
It was during this time that we discovered that Evanesce was an elf, raised by Dark Elves. She thought she was one of them and sought to betray us to Duke Fruge. Fortunately, she discovered her true heritage was Elven and spent was welcomed by Auberick and the other Fey.
The following day I was able to uncover the truth and the enchantments upon the artifact known as the World Heart. It was powered through the magik of Daemons.
This is not uncommon in the world we inhabit, though the Xarians of the other dimension had no experience with daemonic forces. The world heart could shape the world in whatever way the uses desired. To do so, they required magikal power from a daemon to activate the artifact. In order to utilize daemonic power, more souls and deals would have to be made with the daemon that controlled the world heart.
Over the centuries, the world heart had been used by daemons and their influence tainted the artifact. Only daemonic magik would cause it to function.
The other dimensional Xarians were unwilling to offer more souls to use the artifact. Eventually, we arranged for the daemon to break his original contract with the new Xarians. With the contract void, the new Xarians were able to render the object inert.
On my journey to this I encountered a group of travelers that were slightly mad. They had been to our Xaria, and I know not how they did travel to this dimension. One of the mages carried with him a map of multi-dimensional planes. I was able to acquire this map from him.
Were unable to physically bring things back with us (as we were not physically there). That being the case, I drew a copy of the map, thereby committing the map to memory.
When we awoke from the astral form back in our dimension, it seemed that mere hours had passed, though we had spent a day and a half in the other dimension. We began discussing events with Daemir, only to be interrupted by Duke Fruge himself and his guards.
We were weakened from the “travel” both in strength and magik, and surely would have been slain, had it not been for Daemir. He arranged us all in close quarters to himself and Magikally transmigrated us all away from the Duke and his men.
Once back at Du Gul Manor, I transcribed from memory, the map of the strange traveler named Lester Wisbrod.
The next week, I spent at Daemir’s Manor along with Ayd, Periwinkle and Dusty. We recounted the tale of our journey with as much detail as we could recall.
He was grateful for our help in uncovering and ending Fruge’s plot with the world heart.
I spent time learning spells from Periwinkle and Ayd, and finishing research I had left incomplete.
On the 23rd of May, I departed Du Gul Manor.
June 26th, 500
I am still in Quivera and I have made my way into the Orange Duchy. I have a curiosity regarding the land and its inhabitants. I have been hearing that an Orc rules Duchy. I have also heard that his troops and servants are all monsters, and all monsters are welcome.
It is my curiosity how this has come to pass. Is it possible that the Duke is either not actually an Orc, or rather another race under a spell or illusion? Or, if he is an Orc, is he utilizing a magikal power or artifact that allows him intelligence or power over others?
Although I have no direct information that leads me to these theories, I have chosen, as my directive states, to investigate that which I deem fit.
July 10th, 500
I have been near Cragg Keep, the home of Duke Kagrug. I am nervous about the prospect of entering. I have seen naught but monsters in these parts. So far I have spent my entire time in these parts hiding and avoiding the guards. I have very nearly been caught on many occasions. I need to learn spells of magikal concealment. Often hiding isn’t enough, especially when Orcs can sniff you out of hiding.
I have seen very few traveling in these parts that are not of the baser races. In fact, in total, I have seen
5 humans
1 dwarf
2 elves
3 beastmen
and one figure I could not discern the race of. I speculate that based on the complete covering of the body, head, and hands, it may have been a Dark Elf.
I continue to scout the area around the Duke’s Keep to see if there is any unusual magikal radiance or effect.
All the while I am here I try to recall the papers written by Gault Fernwood of Akkoria and his studies on the monsters and tribes of Xaria.
August 3rd
I have had a harrowing two weeks. While investigating the surrounding countryside of Cragg Keep, I was eventually overtaken by a patrol.
I had been studying an unnatural magikal phenomenon in the vicinity. It seemed that there was a great potentiality field massing a mere two leagues from Kagrug Keep. My examination of the area of magik left me nearly without magik. The Guards surprised me and overtook me. I was captured and imprisoned as a spy.
After a number of days in his dungeon, I was allowed to speak to the Duke’s advisors. I explained to them that I was a student of magik and that there was an area of magik nearby that could affect them.
They were quite brutal and I was beaten often.
Eventually, my story must have reached the Duke. I was brought before him in chains. When I explained the circumstances to Duke Kagrug, he instructed me to show him. A small expedition set forth to the area I was investigating. The Duke traveled with me, as well as three of his Orc shaman and several guards.
When we arrived I (being at spearpoint) was forced to show them the magik in the area. I instructed the shaman how to examine the place. While I believe them to be very adept at hurling fyre magiks and shaking the trees, they were obviously not well-versed in magikal study. They demanded my help and that I show it to them.
It was at this point my life was certainly saved. I told them that I was without magik, since my books and components were taken away. If the items were returned me, I would be happy to show them. With a few Orcish commands, two guards were sent scurrying back to the Keep for my belongings.
I assured the Duke and his shaman that I could not escape. Especially not from the powerful shaman and all his guards.
In actuality I still retained enough power for two spells. I used one spell to show the magikal potentiality field that was building to the shaman. The size of the potentiality was indeed very surprising, and is a startling sight for most mages. When they began to examine it further, I took my chance. The shaman began casting to understand the magikal field. This produced some unusual effects in the form of lights and noise.
When all eyes turned to the display, I managed to spell my way across the field to another place in the woods. I was pursued by several Orcish guards, but managed to escape. I feel that they were more concerned with the magikal potentiality than an escaped mage.
August 19th, 500
I have rested for the past two weeks in Orechester. I am prepared to leave Quivera. I have spent my time healing and growing stronger in magik once again. I am fortunate to have the aid of a good innkeeper and his wife. They have provided help in reaching certain apothecaries for rejuvenating herbs and medicines. They are most happy to have me as a long term lodger, after all, I pay my bills regularly.
August 21st
I have decided to head towards the west. I have heard that more talons have been sent out on the “concentric order.” My plan now is to travel west into Gallura. Aside from the obvious (fabled) Fountain of Divinity, there are many other points of interest in Gallura.
August 25th, 500
I expect to enter Gallura in the next week, perhaps longer if I encounter poor weather.
September 19th
En route to the wine and cheese festival in Moutier, I have encountered three other Talons, most of which are also members of the “Concentric Order.” It was quite refreshing to spend some time with fellow Karandians.
First, there was Sgt Cyrus Kanaan, red talon. Sgt Kanaan is a serious soldier and straightforward individual. His ideals differ from that of most officers and have caused him many problems in the past. He is aggressive and very capable in a fight.
Second; Pvt Ruby, also of red talon. It seems she was recently graduated from the Mage Academy and has “volunteered” for the Concentric Order. She has a proclivity toward fire-magik.
Lastly, I met with Cpl Horace Sullivan, white talon. He is an extroverted braggart and boor, with a very abrasive way about him. Nevertheless, he often proves very resourceful. And in some strange way, I find his company enjoyable.
Horace delivered unto me a scroll from Griffin Aldarian. In his missive, he was not explicit, yet he warned of ill tidings for the near future. He bade those of us from the “center ring” (meaning the original nine) to study hard and learn as much as we could over the next several months. His foreboding was that in the coming years a great danger or tragedy will strike at Xaria and he “shall have need of mages of the highest level of study.” There is more to his letter than is writ in my journal. To say more would merely be speculative at this point.
That day we Karandians met with a man named Toryn Farr. It seems that Sgt Kanaan encountered him years ago and they parted on cross terms. The good Sgt was absolutely slavering for this opportunity to enact his recompense for the wrong done him on their previous encounter.
My knowledge of this thief and assassin was slightly more in depth than that of my companions. His was one of the names that I had received from Griffin Aldarian in the original Concentric Order meeting. I felt that it was in the best interests of Karandia, that we return Toryn to the Griffin. We made our plans to follow Toryn Farr in the morning and abduct him.
During our short overnight stay, we encountered a strange and powerful creature of the walking dead. I speculate that it may have been a “Death Lord;” a creature on a higher order than that of the Death Knight. I spent a great deal of time that evening trying to study this creature further, in order to send more documented observations back to Gray Talon.
The following morning, a large number of the Veldron Knights arrived and confronted Toryn Farr. They accused him of several crimes against them, including slaying one of their Knights (namely: Mordekai) and stealing his sword. The Knights attacked Toryn, slew him, recovered the Veldron sword, and then resurrected him. After that, they were more than happy to relieve themselves of the burden of Toryn Farr. We then apprehended him and took him with us back to Karandia.
It seems I must return to Gallura another time.
October 5th, 500
Our travel to Karandia has been quite uneventful. Between my magikal control, the physical control of Sgt Kanaan and Cpl Sullivan, and the dangerous magikal threats of Pvt Ruby, we have had no trouble keeping Toryn Farr complacently in our company for the trip home.
October 12th, 500
If it were not for the magikal sygil that I placed on the thief, he surely would have gotten away. Somehow, Toryn was able to unhook his shackles. He rendered Sgt Kanaan unconscious, took one of the Sgt’s daggers and delivered a crippling backstab to Cpl Sullivan before racing off into the woods. Pvt Ruby took chase after Toryn but was unable to find him. The original struggle roused me from a short nap that I was taking. My confusion quickly melted and I was able to stop his flight through magikal means.
After we recovered him, he was not treated so well. He was allowed only his breeches and boots for the duration of the journey. His hands remained bound behind his back and he was leashed to the Sgt. Whenever we slept, his legs and feet were bound and he was lashed to a tree, boulder or other such unmovable object. ‘Twas the last incident we had with him.
October 19th, 500
We were met by the Karandian troops manning the border and welcomed home… except for the Sgt. He was accosted by some soldiers and we were brought before one Captain Berot, who apparently has a great dislike of the Sgt.
It seems that the Sgt played a fast card on the Captain in order to run free throughout Xaria, but the Captain arranged the orders so that the Sgt could no longer return to Karandia. With our burden and my intervention on his behalf, we were escorted to the capital and met with Griffin Aldarian.
November 6th, 500
After turning over Toryn Farr to the Griffin, the Sgt left on a mission of his own device. Our interrogation of Toryn before reaching the Griffin revealed that he was in contact of a large Dominian Force that was intent on invading and conquering the whole of Xaria for themselves. And they already have a foothold in Gherin Culloch.
Sgt Kanaan sailed for the Celtic Isle in a pig-headed maneuver to thwart the invasion. Cpl Sullivan discovered that Sgt Kanaan’s talk during our march home was not idle, and that he had indeed left for Gherin Culloch. Sullivan found out nearly too late; 5 days after Kanaan sailed. I approached Griffin Aldarian and briefed him on the situation. Griffin Aldarian took us to a secret location and used a magikal window to send us directly to Gherin Culloch. Sadly, this “window” is not a very accurate device.
After getting our bearings, we eventually found the location of the meeting. We were barely in time to rescue Sgt Kanaan from a ghastly death at the hands of the Dominians. Cpl Sullivan did all the difficult work, I merely provided assistance prior to and afterward.
We were hotly pursued by the Dominian foot soldiers called “melees.” Fortunately, their lack of magikal prowess allowed us to escape capture.
We would have been stranded for certain, had it not been for a DeMekrian Noble-woman by the name of Olivia Goslar. She had encountered Sgt Kanaan in the past and chose to aide us in our trouble. Lady Goslar had her private yacht anchored in a nearby inlet. We stole to it straight away and set sail for Karandia.
To my surprise, not only did we rescue one of our own, but the two of them together managed to capture the helm of an Aadkar! The return voyage home shall be filled with discovery and far more interesting for myself than my companions, I am sure.

December 21st, 500
Aside from the rough sea and lack of quiet study atmosphere, the trip home was rather uneventful.
I do not know much of how the others fared in spirits on this trip, for I was a poor companion most nights. My mind was rapt upon the helm of the Aadkar. The Griffin had briefed the center ring (original nine Concentric Members) regarding the Aadkar and much of his travels and journeys. I was aware of the power and strange “Design” of these creatures.
My study of the artifact reveled that the Aadkar are not creatures of magik, such as the Arbiters; rather they are men that had been transformed into these magikal creatures.
The Aadkar were selected from the general populace of the land that has since become Dominia. These men were chosen to be the extreme law-keepers of the land. They were rigorously trained and dedicated vast amounts of time to study of their laws. When they reached their “fruition” point, the powers in charge then put them through a magikal ceremony. The ceremony stripped away much of their humanity and bolstered them with magikal strength and immunities. These men were transformed into half-man/half-magik things.
From what I have discovered, not every Aadkar was “built” the same. They develop particular immunities and abilities that help them better performer their duties. Since they are built in threes to work as a triptych, their special abilities may not be strong separately, but together, they support and reinforce one another.
All of the Aadkar were able to see through all forms of magikal ruse and deception. The helmet, now located in the Griffin’s Hall, enables any wearer to be impervious from magikal deception.
Other than what I have written, the only boon gained from the helm was my understanding of more of the arcane magik from their time, and allowed me to create a new immunity spell for myself. At this time it is very limited. With more work, the spell may become far more useful and far more powerful.
March 20th, 501
The winter home was a good respite from the tribulations of my “study abroad.” I took a leave of absence from my duties and was happily welcomed back home by my family in Traau.
The months of January and February passed quickly and in comfort. But I began to nag at myself to be productive again. I returned to duty at “Theory” for 3 months. I have spent my time searching for and updating my files of information and locations of artifacts, spells, areas, and magikal reactions that are the core of the Concentric Order’s mission. I was happily aided by my fellow Yellow Talons in this. I also was able to provide them with some new insight on spell usage and effects. I journeyed to the front a few times for briefings and debriefings.
I have finished my time spent home and am even now traveling to a curious event. I have read that one of the very rare, standing Libraries in Halgudar is seeking applicants to the post of Librarian and researcher. The Library itself boasts several rooms of magikal tomes and I have heard tell that the staff are knowledgeable in the mystic arts.
Also, they mourn the passing of their head librarian and researcher and celebrate the ascension of one Glenn Silverlocke as the new head Librarian.
While I have no intention of applying for the position, I shall gladly make the journey to the Library to make my condolences for the passing a man of such experience and knowledge. The event should also give me the opportunity to meet with fellow mages and wizards and discuss matters magikal. I look forward to such an evening.
And perhaps, I shall have the opportunity to peruse their shelves and occupy my time with more research of my own.
April 4th, 501
Somtow Library, Dobbyn’s Field, Halgudar. I have traveled with Cpl Sullivan, whom I had met in Gallura last September. He provided amiable companionship and “interesting” conversation.
At the event, we met with one Pvt Mina Taylor, a recent graduate of the Mage Academy and new member of the Concentric Order. Pvt Taylor had delivered unto me a message and a package. The message was forwarded to me from the Griffon. It was written by one of the center ring, or original nine of the concentric order, one Sgt Narina Leatheu.
The message indicated that the original members of the order are known by necromancers who are opposed to our mission. Very likely the same ones that killed Sgt Leatheu.
Due to these facts, I left the scroll case at the library for protection until I could return for it. Other events of the night caused me to forego my examination of the case.
Strange events were taking place at the Library involving possible mages who said that they traveled from days yet to come, to revisit their past. They spoke of some powerful creature (we later discover that he is a demon) named Symon. Somehow, his plans are intertwined with the destiny of the one whom started the Elf culling, Terrel.
More than this, I did not uncover. I spent the following day doing a bit of research and talking with the library staff a bit more.
During my stay at the Library, I received a message from Sgt Kanaan regarding a mission that my skills were requested for. Shortly after this message, we three Karandians departed for home.
June 15th, 501
I had enough time to settle in upon my return to Karandia before beginning my work for the mission. It seems that Sgt Kanaan has been selected to assemble, organize and performer a hazardous mission into Icara. Considering the fact that we are still beheld under the Pax Hagar, this is delicate indeed. Black Talon have a way of skirting the proper channels and getting the job done.
July 9th, 501
As of yet, I am still awaiting the particulars of the mission and am practicing the magiks I know until I can tailor my training further. I may study more on the enemy’s tactics and organization.
July 17th
I have deduced that for my part in this mission, I can better serve them by providing for them as a researcher. I have been given to research an anomaly in Icara called the Ellhaven Springs.
August 8th
I completed the studies for Sgt Kanaan’s Icaran mission as best I could and delivered my findings to him. They will set out later this month.
August 29th
I was summoned to the Griffin’s chambers for a meeting. Myself and four other Concentric Order members were present. The Griffin informed us that he received a message from the Veldron Council regarding events that transpired in Halgudar.
Much of the report was penned or told by a knight named Martin, who was present when a magikal event occurred. This event, allowed those present to change their destinies. Somehow, the magik allowed those present to re-live a moment in another man’s past. It seems it was to be a pivotal point in the life of Terrel from Dakkor. The persons there decided that opposing Martin and assuring that nothing changed would best the best course to follow.
I have encountered something like this before. It entailed a demon by the name of Symonn, and lackeys serving him. If I recall, they wore robes of grey, adorned with symbols of an hourglass.
(Not to be confused with the Sequestrum)
I am intrigued by this magik and will study it further. I will make arrangements to travel to Halgudar once again, and make my way to the Library at Somtow. This will also allow me to recover the scroll case I had left there earlier this year.
One other piece of this puzzle intrigues me. The story also says that they encountered a man, who appeared out of the air, demanded they tell him what the year was and was surprised. He also was shocked not to see either myself or Cpl. Sullivan, whom he referred to by name. I must certainly seek out Richard Sucash once more, and ask him about this.
September 17th, 501
I was asked to attend the debriefing of Sgt Kanaan’s mission. The concepts were quite intriguing and with luck, I shall be able to study similar phenomenon first-hand. But for now, I have other matters to attend.
October 5th
My departure to Halgudar has been delayed by the recent earthquakes and nautical troubles in Karandia. Strange events are happening. Though I wish to stay, the Griffin has advised me to go. He feels that there is a possibility that the events in Halgudar may be related. And if not, learning about this magikal phenomena may be able to help Karandia prevent whatever may come.
I have traveled to the coast for meeting and to examine the ruins found. I have met with the mages in charge as well as Sgt Kanaan. Sgt Kanaan spoke frankly with me and informed me of Cpl. MacLoren’s report. He showed me a rubbing made by Cpl. MacLoren of the text on the ruins; I recalled similar text I saw in a tome at the Library of Somtow.
Connor was assigned to travel with me to Halgudar. This way, he and I could both compare the texts. I could also seek information on the travelers from the future, and ask questions regarding the reference of my name in the mission to the past.
October 23rd, 501
We are landed in Halgudar and are making our way on foot toward Somtow.
November 2nd
The travel has proven quite difficult, so far. With the lack of any Halgudar force in central Halgudar, the path is open for brigands and looters from other places. The highways are nigh perilous. Without the aid of Connor on this journey, it certainly would have taken much longer.
So far, we have encountered Kobolds, Goblyns, Barbarians, Dakkorans, and groups of soldiers that I assume to be Rynith. Connor has been very successful in deterring the base creatures; we have avoided the humans. We have also been accosted by desperate Halgudari. They are driven mad by the state of their land and lack of supplies. I fear that we are of little help here.
How is it that such a Library, as the one at Somtow, can exist here? It certainly cannot thrive in such a place, especially in a place that can barely support a magikal aura?
We have been deterred from our goal so far. Our need to reach Somtow is growing more and more serious. We must not be delayed by any other creatures or peoples.
November 15th, 501
We have reached the Library at Somtow. Our journey was bold and somewhat fraught with conflict, though we are here, truly, none the worse for wear.
They were not as surprised as I would have been had someone come to knock at my door at 2 of the morning. I slept the entire morning away and most of the afternoon.
While I knew that I must away to study, I find the process difficult. The staff, some of whom I’ve met prior, are continually packing, unpacking, and repacking books and scrolls.
Most of the books and scrolls have already been taken from the Library and sent to the new site. The place is strangely empty and the local magikal field is extremely weaker than last I felt it.
The chief librarian and owner, Glenn Silverlocke, is either reluctant to explain what they are doing, or extremely distracted by his task.
Richard Sucash, a researcher and translator for the Library is quite overwhelmed by both the task of packing and moving, as well as the recent discovery of documents allowing the translation of a long forgotten writing. This writing may well be connected to the runes found at Verath Tau. He too is difficult to corner for discussion.
Ethan, the scribe, I fear, is little help in this mission. He is tasked with the move more so than any other. And any book or scrolls that I request are either packed away, or their location is unknown.
Gem is rarely seen, obviously inexorably tied into the procedures of the move.
November 18th
I write now from a reserved room in “the Notched Blade” Inn.
I was fortunate to recover the scroll case that was left by me when last I was here. The strange case had magikal protection that turned prying persons to stone.
During my brief time at the Library, I spoke at length to Richard. He and I are in agreement that several things are amiss in Xaria, of late. And many are related to certain ancient magikal stones and the travelers at the Library when last I was here.
Richard confided in me that there was a journal at the Library that had some information that could help in our questions. I was able to read Arden’s journal, many connections and theories on events and potential methods for conclusions were within.
During our time there, Connor received a vision of death and a great winged demon rising from a stone burial chamber near the sea. After telling me of this, I composed a message that he sent to the Griffin. The message was sent to the “Picket” on the Chalter Medrium front. It was “Nightmare, wave, demon, free.”
A man named Reynold was at the Library. Oddities of the man were pointed out to me by others. He wore many skulls and wolfs head ornaments. Connor inferred that Reynold was a Rynith mage.
Shortly thereafter, Rynith soldiers and invaded the Library, captured Arden’s journal, and kidnapped Glenn Silverlocke. As they fled the Library, they set fyre to the place. I recognized Reynold as Razfunt due to tall the hours I spent with Tarrik. Unfortunately, my recognition came too late, and they were more powerful than we and we could not stop them.
We rescued all the books that we could. The rest of the travelers, along with Connor and myself, carried what we could to the nearby inn called “the Notched Blade.” Ethan informs me that the Library was in the process of being broken up into two locations; one in Doro Y’Edhel, and one in Karandia. Ethan is in charge of the relocation and set-up in Karandia. We are making arrangements for carts to transport us as well as the remainder of books to Karandia.
I have transcribed all that I remember of the Journal. I only hope that it will be enough to aid us.
January 16th, 502
My time traveling was spent in study of the facts and information we had. I have uncovered little and have only vague notions of the events to come and any plans that we may make.
I was able to make a copy of the journal kept by the one known as Arden.
February 25th
I have been at study in both the Libraries and at ‘Theory.’ I have uncovered precious little that can aide us. From time to time, I have had brief conversations with the Griffin about the events unfolding. He is greatly concerned and is also looking into the matter. With luck, he will have more advice to give.
March 8th, 502
I have begun a journey to the Coast, where events have been transpiring. I am fortunate enough to travel with a small squad of Mage Corps soldiers. I am the default leader, as the mission is ‘yellow talon’ in nature. With me is: Cpl. Connor MacLoren, with me since the fyre at Somtow, Cpl. Horace Sullivan, journeyed with me to Somtow last March, and Pvt. Ruby, with whom myself, Cpl. Sullivan and Sgt. Kanaan retrieved Toryn Farr from Gallura.
The town of Verath Tau and the ruins are, if not the key, clues to the answer. At the least, they will prove to be help and guidance toward the answer.
There is a great creature of magik set loose upon the land, a creature known as a “Devourer.” (I have uncovered nearly nothing as yet regarding the creature, though I have my personal theories.) That coupled with the resurfacing of the 6 stones of power, also called the ‘creation stones’ bode naught well for Karandia and all of Xaria.
March 17th, 502
My time at Vareth Tau has been cut short. I now journey back to Traau to consult with the Griffin.
We had received orders not to enter the Village, nor to attempt to recover any of our fallen allies left to guard the location. Surprisingly, we were able to follow those orders for a time, considering that they run contrary to one very basic tenet of the Corps: “No one gets left behind.”
Talons and Allies, March 502
The very idea that we should not enter the town to find out what the troubles were, struck against my nature (again, yellow talon training).
While posted near the village, Richard received a delivery from Ethan, the keeper of the Karandian branch of the Silverlocke Library. The books were copies of two ancient journals, one belonged to Arden, and one to Cornell, each kept one of the creation stones during their time, approximately one thousand sixty three years ago.
I am disappointed that I do not have copies of these books. I shall have to see if Richard will allow me to transcribe them.
One of the best results of that day was that Richard Sucash and his assistants were able to finally decipher the strange deamonic script. I have made a copy for myself.
We were later met by someone claiming to be a Green Talon Sgt. At the time we did not trust him, nor, I think, do any of us now. We later discovered that he is Black Talon, and his name is Mage Captain Flynt Worwick. He is an Elf, and a user of both the sword and magik. We are all highly suspicious of him. Still.
This Captain, brought with him orders of my field promotion to Sergeant, as well as a box, which I later found outer to contain one of the very stones that we sought.
The stone was of little help to us on that day.
I was suspicious of all party’s present there, including Sucash and others that were not Karandian borne. I had removed the Stone from its’ box and secreted it ‘pon my person, leaving the others to believe it still in the box, carried by Pvt. Ruby.
I later discovered the stone to be the Magik Stone of the Creation Stones we sought. It was the Magik Stone.
The glyph upon the stone

“Magik”
Eventually, we had uncovered that the townsfolk of Verath Tau were ensorcelled. They had been made to dislike all things Karandian, even though they were Karandian themselves. A Priestess who worshipped strange creatures gave all the villagers amulets. These amulets exerted a control over their will, causing them to follow her.
I took some of these amulets to study, but once removed from the villagers, the spells quickly dissipated from the amulets. Each amulet bore a frightening visage, as those of a Gargoyle.
Sadly, before the night was out, we were forced to slay her and several villagers before restoring the rest to their right and true minds.
Most of this transpired at a portal we had discovered early in the night. The portal had released a creature that the locals called a Da’Garroth. The creatures were expelled at regular intervals of approximately 10 minutes. A search of the dead Priestess uncovered a small ceremony book. It contained the spell to open the portal. The spell, performed back to front, closed the unholy portal.
From hindsight, I have discerned that the creatures called Da’Garroth hail from the Isle of Mu.
After defeating the creatures and closing the portal, I decided that we had uncovered much of what ailed the citizenry of the western coast of Karandia. I then left the squad under the charge of Cpl. Sullivan and departed for Traau to report.
During my trip, a Black Talon squad intercepted me. Apparently, haste was necessary. They began to magik me away to Traau as fast as they could cast. I arrived early the next morn’.
I was deposited outside the office of Major Blakely.
During my brief wait, I saw Capt. Worwyck leave the Major’s office. He had the look about him that left me no doubt that he had just been reprimanded for some error on this most resent mission.
Major Blakely was displeased with me, to say the least. Apparently, the Box and Stone were sent to help us, should the need have arisen. The Box containing the Stone acted as a sort of shield to hide the Stone from other forces seeking it. Once I removed the Stone, others were drawn to it. The Major bade me return the Stone to the Box and I did so.
He spoke to me of other matters also. He confirmed my theory that the Isle of Mu had arisen again. The Isle had great magikal protections upon it that prevented any vessel from sailing to it.
However, there was a magikal statue called “Belphanior” that could allow a ship to sail to Mu. And we had Belphanior.
My new task was to study the statue and decipher the spells placed ‘pon it that allowed the vessel to sail there.
For some reason, we need to go there.
July 9th, 502
Finally, I can rest, though not easy. My work has completed. I have watched the final ship set sail to the Isle of Mu.
A vast amount of research was done to determine if ‘twas possible to circumvent the deadly protection of the Isle, but to no avail. The magik protecting Mu was more ancient and powerful than any spell that man could forge or wield. The only way through was by using the “key” of Belphanior.
For the past three months I have spent nearly every waking moment studying Belphanior and translating its magik into spells that are placed on special ships we have built. All this was taking place side-by-side and simultaneous. The ships themselves were crafted to harness the spells of the statue and focus them to be cast while sailing.
Finally, the magik within Belphanior was unraveled and placed ‘pon each of the ships allowing them to sail to Mu, unmolested by the great and powerful magiks that protect the Isle,
Now, I simply await their return and any news and knowledge that they bring with them.
July 18th, 502
I was able to interview the soldiers and Talons that returned from Mu. The central item of importance that I glean from all their tales is thus:
All the stones were kept in a book called “the Book of Days.” The Book keeps the power of the Stones in check. Each of the Stones must be placed in their special compartments within the Book.
The Book of Days is kept, protected on a magikal pillar on the Isle of Mu, under the ocean.
The pillar is empty and the Book is missing.
August 21st
So far, the information gathered is:
There are six Creation Stones loosed in the world.
They are:
The Magik Stone (held by Karandia)
The Life Stone
The Death Stone
The Daemon Stone (held by the Elves)
The Time Stone (possibly held by Arden)
The Space Stone (once held by Arden)
Arden is missing and unable to be traced, located, controlled or coerced. His former service to Karandia is no guarantee of his current allegiance.
The Death Stone is controlled by the Sequestrum.
Cornell, the former wielder of the Time stone, is dead.
Wearing a Stone grants the wielder great powers over one of the six energies.
Removing a Stone causes the wearer to die.
The Stones were once held in check bye the Book of Days, contained on the undersea Isle of Mu, recently risen.
The Book of Days is missing.
The Stones corrupt the wielders.
Each Stone draws the wielder to the other Stones.
All the Stones together are immensely powerful, possibly able to change all of Xaria at the wielder’s whim.
And all of this tells us that we must do everything in our power to retrieve the Stones and stop whatever other forces are even now searching as we are.
Do we place the Stones in the Book? Or is that the undoing of all things?
October 2nd, 502
I have recently been issued orders to take a small squad with me and return to the ruins of the Library of Somtow.
October 28th, 502
We are now journeying to Sha'Thraem. A great deal has transpired in Halgudar. The Ruins of the Somtow Library were the sight of a great many events.
When we arrived, it was to find the “Devourer” lurking in the area. The creature was nearly indestructible. We could hurt it with great spells, however it could easily heal itself from others. We were only able to keep it away from us and defend ourselves.
The ruins still held some items that were of use. We were in the process of scavenging what we could when Rynith came to the scene. Razfunt, Fizzban (his apprentice), and a female wizard called Brand were apparently also looking for the same things as we were.
Our drawback was that we did not want them having any information or know any of the resources that we had.
We withdrew from the ruins to discuss.
Little did we know, Glenn Sliverlocke had been working all along with Razfunt. He told the Rynith Court Wizard everything he knew, including the secret location of the Death Stone.
I was to later discover that while we were away, Razfunt retrieved the Death Stone from its hiding place.
We had an uneasy “cease of hostility” pact that afternoon. Silverlocke arrived later, much to our relief. He claimed not to have been under the influence of Rynith spells and we verified that to be so. He told us that he was working with them voluntarily. He also let us know that the only way to defeat the Devourer was to have Ardan dispel it, use Ardan’s blood, or kill Ardan.
Ardan had saved Connor and Horace from capture in Verath Tau 6 months prior. We owed him a debt.
Silverlocke and his niece used a magikal mask to teleport them directly to Doro Y’Edhel.
When Ardan arrived, we explained our situation. He agreed to help us, but would need the remainder of the night to prepare the spell.
The following morning Ardan helped us lure the Devourer into our trap. We were able to capture it and Ardan undid the magiks that created the Devourer. It revealed to us that the creature was actually his deceased wife from centuries ago, preserved in the indestructible form of the creature.
During this time, Razfunt decided to attempt to escape with the Death Stone. Connor and I saw him use a transmigration spell to escape us.
We thought that the only place he could go was the ruins. Connor used a magikal tree travel and I simply ran. When we got to the ruins, we confronted the Rynith Wizard. We fought hard, but he possessed superior magik and knocked us down and out.
When we awoke, he was gone. Wythe the Death Stone. Ardan had been somehow transformed, having a star in one eye and wearing different robes. He also had the distance stone. He left the ruins and took Cass with him.
When he disappeared with Cass, he mentioned Sha’Thraem. So that is why we are have are not returning to Karandia. And since we cannot possibly enter the heart of Rynith to try to regain the Death Stone from Razfunt, we pursue Ardan to Sha’Thraem.
Stewart, October 502
February 24th, 503
We have wintered in the village of Hempshire, in the southeast of Myere. We tried to go on, but the weather and climate was far too hostile and inhospitable.
New Talons have been assigned to this mission: Cpl Tasha Gellis, Red Talon (of Sgt Kanaan’s former troupe) and Cpl Teara, Red Talon.
Cpl Sullivan has also returned to this assignment, and I must admit that I am quite pleased to see him back. We will certainly need his abilities.
We are marching out for Sha’Thraem on the morrow. We are headed to the site of the former Var’Nath Temple and the ruins that stand there now.
Griffin Aldarian has sent us Orders to “find our starry-eyed friend,” Ardan, and keep him alive. He says that “Time may run out, but the stars must not fall again.” He has also sent us a map. And we must be at the Temple by the 8th of March.
Not only do the journals of Ardan and Cornell mention this place, but I have felt a strange sensation of late as though I am being directed to the temple. I have touched one of the stones and even worn one, albeit in my pocket. I think this may be why.
Our mission goal has not changed. We must recover the 6 stones and the Book of Days. We must bring all seven things to the Isle of Mu, and perform or complete the ancient ceremony to close the book and contain the stones.
March 10th, 503
We have weathered a strange storm indeed.
Now that we are safely on the road and far from the Temple Ruins, I put my pen to paper once more, in an attempt to organize the events and circumstances that have passed and are yet to come.
We arrived at the ruins of the Var’Nath Temple in Sha’Thraem on March the 8th.
There we managed to defeat the encircling magical protections or the temple. To do so, we had to barter with the local Orc Tribe.
We also encountered Ardan and Cornell here. Cornell, it seemed was intent on killing Ardan, though I have never satisfactorily understood why.

The writings and documents herein, follow my studies into the wondrous realm of Magik. I have spent many years and tireless hours compiling my knowledge and would not trade all that toil for gold.
Knowledge is what drives man (to some degree it can be said of the elves and the dwarves as well, though certainly in different ways!) Man's search for knowledge sets him apart from the baser creatures such as the goblyns or trolls.
I have within my breast, burning like the hottest embers of a fire, the driving need to find more than I know. Out in the world, beyond the libraries are gems unlike that found in any mountain, wonders of magikal nature unlike any which has been seen in a forest. Discoveries of the mind are priceless. My journey will no doubt be long and harrowing. I will document my progress and learnings as best I can.
But in order to not forget what I have learned thus far, I shall include my notes from my earlier training and make this my new book of spells, and relevant notes on magik.
In my earliest days my understanding of spells was slight, though I was informed that my concepts of magik as a whole were what brought the attention of the Mage Academy recruiters.
I was taken from my training in the Army of Karandia and inducted into the ranks of the Mage Academy. My instructors did not share my thoughts and ideas on magik. Their task was to make us into Soldiers and mages for Karandia; they cared not for ideas and theories of magik.
We were driven to our limits each day. We were taught the basic spells that were necessary of all Mage Soldiers: Basic spells that would serve you as a mage until your dying day. "Irreplaceable," they called them. "Necessities."
Looking back, I know that the instructors were performing a duty on more than one level. Much like magik exists on more than one level, the instructors taught us how to use a few basic spells in the span of a heartbeat to keep ourselves and our allies alive. And as they taught, they also watched over us. We were being groomed towards our natural abilities.
Soon we all moved on. Very few of our class saw one another again. We were separated to advanced training, and from there, on to disparate units in the Karandian Army. Mage soldiers are few, and that keeps them separated for most of their service.
Karandian Mage Academy Basic Training taught me "the spells I would need to stay alive" …and a spell or two that would be of practical use now and again.
I remember the first spell they taught us. In hindsight it was ever so funny to see one instructor, Mage Sergeant Keane (Red Talon) knocking down 14 cadets, time and again. There would be a great pulse, the air would lightly ripple and spread outward knocking us all flat. By the time we stood up, Mage Sgt. Keane would be standing somewhere else and with a "thump” of the air, we were all flat again, with the wind knocked from our lungs. Over and over he would lay us flat. Most of us needed no explanation after that why such a use of magik could help us. A simple use of spell and you could escape any spot you were in, regardless of amount of enemy around you.
The thing to remember was that it would also knock down your brothers-in-arms! That was another several hours of training!
BLAST (1) Component: Gesture - Left hand, thumb crosses palm, fingers together, palm away from body (note: can use both hands for spell) Duration: Instant Range: 10 ft. Spell causes all Characters, except Caster, within 10 ft. radius to be knocked to the ground. No damage is caused. Caster must yell "BLAST."
Notes: Though it is unnecessary to extend arms to full length, the physical motion helps the mage to focus his magikal energy and channel it into the spell, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the mage’s casting.
The spell of circular explosive force was the simplest spell that we could learn for protection. It was described as a "momentary spell." They taught this to us because it can give a mage a moment's advantage, in which to prepare more magik or to affect an escape.
The next logical steppe was to learn a defensive spell. A momentary spell may not be enough to survive. And as mage-soldiers, it is our duty to stay alive so that our magik can be used to support the rest of the troops.
Mage Sergeant Schist (Blue Talon) was keen to point out that if we are dead we are worthless (though Mage Sgt, Drogan- Gray Talon may have cause to argue this point). And so we were taught to defend ourselves with our magik.
"A mage-soldier must be able to defend himself against an enemy swordsman, arrows, or other impending harm that is not directed at you by magik."
The very essence of magik can be solidified about the mage to protect 'gainst harm. Even so, this protection does not prevent magikal attack from breaching your defenses. Once struck, the mage-soldier is no longer protected. The force of the blow will dissipate the magik, and you will remain unhurt. The magik cannot be reinforced more than once, providing no more than protection against two strikes. My theory for this magikal limitation is that you are concentrating too much of the same type of energy in one place. More than that and it is simply wasted effort, due to the fact that subsequent spells do not take hold and the energy of the spell "bleeds" away to be re-absorbed into the general magikal field.
SHIELD (2) Component: Gesture - Left hand, palm away from body at chest level, moves in a backwards "S" pattern. Duration: 10 min. or Until First Attack or DISPEL MAGIK Range: Touch Special: A Character can only have 2 of this spell cast on them at any given time. Character under spell is protected from the first non-magikal attack.
Mage Sgt. Schist was not as happy to demonstrate one of the favorite spells of the Karandian Mage. We next learned the way to bounce and redirect the magik attacks of our enemies back to them. Like being reflected in a looking glass, the magik returned to the wizard who sent it.
This spell was taught to us exhaustingly. If there were no other spell that we learned, this one would remain in every cadet until he could no longer cast magik. The spell was drilled into us for many days. We practiced it relentlessly. I think it possible that I could cast this spell in my sleep by now.
REFLECT (4) Component: Gesture - Both hands in same shape: index finger and thumb make a circle, other fingers are splayed. Hands are back to back, 90˚ to each other, left hand toward chest, right hand facing outward. Duration: 10 min.* or hit by Spell or Spell Ball Range: Touch Special: A Character can only have 2 of this spell cast on them at any given time. Target is able to REFLECT one attack. For non-damage causing spells, the other Caster automatically becomes the Target. If a spell ball is used, the original Target may pick up the spell ball and choose a new Target. A damage-causing spell must be used immediately or it is lost. *Spell cannot be used as a response to an attack, it MUST be precast.
When night training began, the benevolent instructors allowed us the comfort of bungling around in the dark for the first night. The second night, after we had learned the value of darkness as our ally, we were taught the value of light.
It is a tool no wizard should be without. There are many a library that could benefit from learning this spell.
LIGHT (1) Component: Verbal - "Helio-Focal" Duration: 5 min.* Range:BatteryStrength Marker: Flashlight Spell enables Caster to call forth magikal LIGHT from a wand. This magik LIGHT will remain on until the Caster ends the spell. Once lit, other Characters can use the wand. *If a DISPEL MAGIK spell is cast, the LIGHT spell is broken. It can only be turned on again with another LIGHT spell.
The final spell taught to my class before basic mage training was completed, was a spell for offense. The Instructors allowed and encouraged us to be divers in our application of harmful magik. They explained that not every form of magikal attack would be effective to every foe and therefore, the more types of magikal damage that the Karandian Army could inflict, the better we could defend our kingdom.
I am ashamed to admit that I could not master any arcane or unique form of wound inflicting magik. I was barely able to summon the most common type, the fyrebolt.
FYREBOLT (4) Component: Verbal -"Kwar-el Fôs-for" Duration: Instant Range: Spell ball Spell ball must hit Target. No preparation is necessary; pull spell ball, state spell and throw. MAGIK BOLT causes TWO Points of damage regardless of type. The type of BOLT is selected by the Caster. (e.g. FIRE BOLT, ICE BOLT, LIGHTNING BOLT, MUD BOLT, etc.) Each type of BOLT must be purchased separately. DISPEL MAGIK has no effect.
Though, having barely mastered this spell, I have the intent to learn more spells of similar nature. After basic mage training was complete, I had spoken to a cadet and classmate that had been assigned to Red Talon. He extolled the virtues of multiple styles of magikal bolts and touches. He shared with me that the instructors explained about enemies that are immune to certain magikal attacks and who would logically attack a fyre-spyrit with fyre-magik?
Sound thoughts indeed.
Whereas basic mage training was grueling, painful, and tiring, my advanced mage training was far more exciting.
I had theories, concepts, and understanding of magik that many other mages had not. I had been selected to be part of the Yellow Talon.
I was later reassigned to the Theoretical Magik Division, located in Traau. Our function is to research and apply new spells and magik and knowledge thereof.
At this point, my training became more voluntary. I learned that which I desired to learn, in order to further my studies.
The earliest training was a battery of spells of like nature, enabling me to locate and understand magikal effects and influences.
The first necessary spell was to locate magik.
DETECT MAGIK (1) Component: Verbal – “Magikum Indikatus” Gesture - left hand begins as fist, fingers towards right chest, hand moves in horizontal arc to left side of body, fingers opening. Duration: Instant Range: 10 ft. Spell enables Caster to DETECT the presence of any magik within a 10 ft. radius. Caster will be able to DETECT if someone is under the influence of a spell or if a spell has been cast upon a Character. Caster will also be able to DETECT which Characters are magik-users. A magik-user and visible magikal items will glow with a magikal aura. For an item that is hidden from view, the area in which it is concealed will glow with a magikal aura.
It was shortly after this time that the teaching of Sgt Foxglove and Sgt Schist I did recall. They spoke greatly of the ability to magikally protect one’s self from magik. Similar in nature to the spell that protects from swords and the spells that protect and direct the spell back at the enemy, though different. The spell to simply stop a spell from having an affect on you would be greatly appreciated after my first encounter with a cursed tome. I was able to detect what magik a tome might have placed upon it; though I could not understand its nature without touching it. This did cause me several hours of exquisite pain and torment. After my superiors finally found me and removed the spell influence, I devoted the following week to the learning and practicing of my next spell. Without sending the magik about the area or deflecting it back upon the source, this spell simply nullifies the magik, whether it be damaging or no. And like the spell of magikal reflection, this may only be cast twice upon the same person due to the similarity conundrum of magikal fields.
MAGIK SHIELD (3) Component: Gesture - Left hand, palm away from body at chest level, index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed, hand moves in a backwards "S" pattern. Duration: 10 minutes* or DISPEL MAGIK Range: Touch Special: A Character can only have 2 of this spell cast upon them at any given time. Spell gives the Caster or other Character a protective shield against the next spell cast upon them. *Spell cannot be used as a response to an attack, it MUST be precast.
After being able to locate a magikal item, tome, active or hidden spell (not to mention those beings capable of utilizing magik), AND protect myself from the magik it may have upon it, the next course of action was to learn to understand it. I spent the next weeks mastering the art of unlocking the secrets of written and activated spells. The spells to do so were divided between a lesser understanding and a greater understanding. The lesser was needed to learn the greater; and from the spell of greater magikal understanding, other spells can be learned and remembered.
DECIPHER MAGIK (1) Component: Verbal: “Magikum Explicati” Gesture – Left index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Circle and other fingers must touch item to be deciphered. Duration: Instant Range: Touch Spell enables Caster to read magikally inscribed books (such as other magik-user's spell books), know what enchantments/magikal properties an item has and analyze magikal potions and powders. (The Caster cannot cast spells from another spell book, but will know what is in that spell book.) Once an object is read, the spell need not be cast again to read the same object. Caster can also determine which spells have been cast upon a person with DECIPHER MAGIK. (If there is not a strip of cloth or other tag to be read, Caster must either find out through the owner of item/book or find a GameMaster for DECIPHER MAGIK)
The deciphering of magiks is relatively easy to do compared to the spells to fully comprehend another spell. Comprehension of a spell is easily twice the task and cost of magikal energy. Though this is so, the rewards are well worth the effort. Much more detailed understanding and knowledge of the spell is gained from the Comprehension spell. Enough, even, to cast the spell without having learned it. Enough to incorporate it to a parchment for later use, if those skills are known to the caster.
COMPREHEND MAGIK (7) Component: Verbal – “Magikum Explicati Noblis”” Gesture – Left index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Left circle and other fingers must touch item to be deciphered. Right index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Right circle and other fingers must touch temple. Duration: Instant Range: Touch *Caster must have purchased DECIPHER MAGIK before they can purchase this spell. Special: Spell costs TWO Casting Points to cast, but does not require casting DECIPHER MAGIK first. Spell allows Caster to magikally understand how a written spell (that they don't have) functions. If the Caster wishes, after casting COMPREHEND MAGIK the Caster is able to cast the spell in question from memory once. Caster will only “remember” comprehended spell for one hour. Only one spell can be understood per casting of COMPREHEND MAGIK. The caster will still lose one Casting Point casting the spell, even though it was not in the Caster's spell book. A spell that has been comprehended by the Caster can be made into a scroll. (See CREATE SCROLL.) Caster can only create a scroll from a written spell. For a non-written spell (i.e. not a General Knowledge spell), COMPREHEND MAGIK will give the Caster an understanding of the spell (per the GameMaster of that game). Caster will get the spell description or additional information, but will be unable to cast the spell or create a scroll.
This has been the single most useful spell that I have learned throughout all my time in the fields of magik.
Though, to fully appreciate the thoroughness of the spell of magikal comprehension, a new spell is needed: the spell that allows the caster to transcribe a magikal event to the written page. When the caster fully magikally grasps the spell, the magik allows it to remain in one’s head for only a brief part of the day. So, in order to fully benefit from the spell, one can utilize a different form of comprehension magik to then extract the gathered magikal information from the mind and place it on a scroll of magikal nature. This will allow the caster to be free of the time in which the magikal knowledge will decay and be lost from the mind. When the magik is placed upon a scroll, it will remain there until being read aloud again.
The magik for this is really only a simple spell of magikal transference. The caster does not actually utilize the recorded spell from the mind. The magik of this spell simply transfers the spell from the mind into the parchment. Now, if only we could find a way to make the magik actually write the scroll…
CREATE SCROLL (8) Component: Verbal – “Magikum Explicati Noblis Transfera Digitaris” Gesture - Right index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Right circle and other fingers must touch temple. Once verbal component is spoken, hand shape must touch the parchment to receive the spell. Exception: 1x/Day Duration: Instant Range: Touch Spell allows Caster to cast a spell into a scroll. This spell can either be a spell from the Caster's list or another spell that the Caster has used COMPREHEND MAGIK to understand. The scroll can only be used once, then it becomes useless. Caster has the option to make the scroll decipherable by non-magik users. Scrolls written in magik script, must have DECIPHER MAGIK cast upon them before another Character can utilize it. Caster MUST indicate on scroll whether or not it is written in magik script.
Magik has become easy enough to locate and understand, even to transcribe into words upon a page, though even in the fields of research, there lay dangers in uncovering tomes, spells, and artifacts. Finding and understanding magik can be met with magikal perils.
It followed that the next spells to be learned would be those of the undo-ing of magiks.
The simplest spell that has the widest effect was the most practical to learn. This one spell has the most widespread effect of negating spells. There are certainly those spells that are more difficult to counteract, and therefore require more specific magikal energy. The common counterspell, oft called a “dispel” is a very basic form of magikal energy that focuses into a generic negative magikal flux, terminating the flow of active magik found in simpler spells.
DISPEL MAGIK (4) Component: Gesture – both hands in “thumb + index make circle” shape, circles interlocked. Hands pointed toward spell to be dispelled. Upon casting spell, break both circles. Duration: Instant Range: 10 ft. Spell counteracts most previously cast spells, except damage causing or instantaneous spells. If more than one spell has been cast upon a character, DISPEL MAGIK will cancel out the most recently cast spell that it will affect. DISPEL MAGIK can only be directed at one target or one spell. DISPEL MAGIK counters: AMOUR, BEFUDDLE, BLEND, CALL UNDEAD, CHARM, COMMAND, CONTROL LESSER UNDEAD, CONTROL GREATER UNDEAD, COVET, DANCE, EMPOWER, EVIL ESSENCE, FEAR, FEIGN DEATH, FLEE, FORGET, FREEZE, FUMBLE, HOLD, HOLDE MONSTER, INCITE, INOCULATE, INVISIBILITY, INVISIBLE AREA, ITCH, LAUGHTER, LIGHT, MAGIK SHIELD, MAGIK TRAP, MAGIK WALL, PAIN, PERMEATE, RECOLLECTION, REPEL LESSER UNDEAD, REPULSE, ROOT, SHIELD, SHIELD OF DEITY, SILENCE, SPEAK WYTHE DEAD/UNDEAD, SPEAK WYTHE MONSTERS, SUPPRESS AURA, TAME, TREE, TRIGGER and TRUE SIGHT.
Though the list of affectable spells seems long, it is not nearly as all-inclusive as one might be led to belief. Caution is recommended when dealing with an unknown spell.
While the research of magik can be interesting and exciting, we have all found that it can be quite dangerous as well. Many times there have been extra-planar forces and strange spells that have protected or disguised tomes and artifacts. Another very useful spell helps us recognize and see these things for what they are.
It is a spell of vision through magik. This spell allows the eyes to perceive beyond the normal range of vision (light and dark) and into the field of magik. Wythe this magikal vision, most things are visible, as they truly exist, without the magikal spell covering them.
TRUE SIGHT (3) Component: Verbal – “Ocularis Magikum” Duration: 5 min. or DISPEL MAGIK Range: Line of Sight Spell allows Caster to see creatures that are polymorphed, illusory, invisible, blended, etc. Things will appear as they were before they had the spell cast upon them.
This spell of sight is actually limited in its effectiveness, however, useful at the right times. Much like all magik, I suppose.
My further studies over my years at “Theory,” along with my magikal concepts and ideas, led me to the study of magik itself. Not the affectation of individual spells, nor the specification of magikal usage and style, but the concepts of magik as a whole. My paper entitled “The Magikal Well Theory” was published during this time. I did not learn most of the spells that are commonly used, however, I learned spells that affect magik, rather than create a magikal effect.
First of these spells was one that enables me to provide raw magikal energy to other casters who practice similar forms of magik. That is to say, those that access their magik, in the same methodology as do I. While this may seem foolish at the time, it allows for a degree of effectiveness that may be necessary from time to time. I can provide a caster with magikal energy should they run out. If I, for example, were unable to counteract a particular spell because I had not learned its opposite, and my colleague had learned this spell but was without enough energy to cast it, then I could provide them with the magikal power to do so. Simple.
SHARE (2) Component: Gesture – Both hands; index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Circles are overlaid with right circle closer to body. Splayed respective fingertips are touching. Hands are near chest or chin level. Hands separate yet keep shape, left touches recipient at center chest, right touches self at center chest. Duration: Instant Range: Touch Special Notes: Casting Points can ONLIE be shared with mages of the same category of magik. Spell allows Caster to give ONE Casting Point to another mage within their category of magik.
To give the Target ONE Casting Point, the Caster must spend ONE Casting Point to cast SHARE and must either give up ONE of his/her Casting Points or Body Points to complete the spell. Target cannot gain more than their normal maximum for Casting Points. Caster cannot SHARE Casting Points if he/she does not have enough Casting or Body Points available.
This spell of sharing magikal energy allows a caster to give such to their allies. This leaves one weaker magikally and quite possibly, physically as well. This being known, another spell of acquisition of magikal energy is necessary, in certain circumstances, in order to replenish magikal energy. The most common form of restoring one’s magikal energy is to focus or concentrate on a task, or object of their magikal nature. Specifically, I must study my writings and knowledge to regain power. These studies take time. There are instances when time is not available to regain magik, and more drastic steps needs be taken.
This spell I did learn from a member of Gray Talon. I had uncovered this spell in my research, although I suspected its existence prior. I had difficulty in learning this by myself. Once I spoke to Corporal Wade of Gray Talon, he assisted me in the conceptualizing that allowed me to learn the spell. This was also the first time that I discovered that there are spells that certain mages, due to their magikal direction, are unable to learn regardless of effort. This was quite a disturbing thought. I have been meaning to spend a certain amount of time in research of this phenomenon. Once understood, a method of circumventing it could be managed.
DRAIN ENERGY (5) Component: Gesture – Left index, pinky extended, thumb aligned with palm edge, middle and ring folded at second knuckle (to meet palm). Right hand (or wand) touches target. Duration: Instant Range: Touch Special Notes*: Within spell the term “Mage” signifies a character that is either a full mage or multi-class mage who uses Purchase and Casting Points. Caster must ONLY touch Target Mage*. While touching Target Mage, Caster must state the spell "DRAIN ENERGY" and count aloud "One thousand ONE, one thousand TWO, one thousand THREE," etc. For each number the Caster reaches, the Target Mage loses that many Casting Points. The Caster gains these Casting Points from the Target Mage to increase their own. The Caster cannot DRAIN more Casting Points than the Target Mage has. Caster cannot gain more Casting Points than their original amount. The spell ends as soon as contact is broken. The Target Mage is not restricted by this spell and can break contact.
Much later, I discovered a variation on the ability to provide magikal energy to others of my conceptuality of magik. Instead of merely giving them power, I could infuse their spell with power. My magikal energy could be used to “boost” theirs. Whereas they would be the caster of the spell, I could affect the spell in certain categorical specified ways. This magikal effect allows me to double the strength of a spell, double the duration, or its affect, if measurable. Sadly this spell is unable to affect any spells I cast. Again, something worth looking into.
MAGIKAL ENHANCEMENT (7) Component: Verbal – For range: “Duo-Magikum Distanus,” for duration: “Duo-Magikum Duratis,” for damage: “Duo-Magikum Destructi.” Duration: Instant Range Touch Spell allows Caster to double the range OR duration OR amount of damage of any single spell by another mage of the same category of magik. Both Casters must be in physical contact and the spells must be cast at the same time. MAGIKAL ENHANCEMENT cannot ENHANCE magikal items, scrolls or be used to ENHANCE your own spells. Only one ENHANCEMENT may be used at a time.
While in the Blue Duchy of Quivera, I spent some time in the company of other mages. In my experience, those mages that travel the worlds (not living their lives in fear of the sun in dusty libraries) have an excellent grasp of useful magiks for traveling the world.
In my time spent with a mage called Periwinkle (see notes in Journal) I learned from him two spells.
The first was a spell that could turn men to stone. The interesting thing was, that the spell would not affect magikal objects. The person, as well as all their belongings would become as stone, impervious to harm, yet their items of magikal nature would not be affected. Surely there are interesting applications for this aberrant spell effect.
PETRIFY (4) Component: Physical – small piece of slate, roughly shaped like a person. Must be held in hand. Duration: 5 Minutes or UNPETRIFY Range: Touch Target is turned to stone. All items on target except magikal items are also turned to stone. While petrified, the Target takes no damage. A Target cannot be healed while petrified. Target cannot be moved and items cannot be taken. Any form of long term poison or spell is temporarily ceased while petrified. DISPEL MAGIK has no effect. Spirits are unaffected by this spell.
Though I have seen the spell used interestingly, and even devised an interesting plan and use of a petrified companion, the spell is not an easy one to cast in a combat, and its effectiveness is very specific to the situation.
The other spell I had learned from Periwinkle was the spell of strength. This spell increases a man’s strength tenfold. Wythe a single blow, should I ever be inclined, I could injure a man nearly to half his strength, as well as send them reeling and even to the ground. I am no great warrior and therefore expect to use this spell for my warrior allies or in other circumstances.
EMPOWER (4) Component: Gesture – Both hands open on opposing bicep, both hands stroke downward and out from body. Duration: 1 minute or DISPEL MAGIK Range: Touch Spell endows Target with magikal strength. Target has the strength of ten men. In combat, this causes TWO points of damage per strike. In most cases, one blow will knock down opponent. Spell calls for role-playing from opponents. For game purposes, the Target must state aloud “EMPOWER” when under the effects of the spell. It is also necessary in combat for the Target to state that they are causing 2 points of damage.
I have few uses for this spell, but it has proven effective when the need arises. A stronger swordsman at my side is quite welcome, and magik well spent.
Another of the mages I journeyed with, though very briefly, was one named Ayd. Though he tells me it is spelled “Aodh.” I had seen both he and Periwinkle use a spell to travel great distances. I am familiar with spells of instant transportation, though have, until this point, not had the chance to study or learn such spells.
Ayd has given me his instruction on the process and the effect. I was forced to study deep within Du Gul Manor to uncover the tomes that would help me perfect the spell for my use. Under Ayd’s tutelage, I was unable to teleport more than a few feet. When the explanations were made more clear, through the books I found, I completed the spell to my satisfaction.
The principle of matter transmigration is more difficult that Ayd made it sound. He spoke of the trees and location of natural force. The magikal effect is not as instantaneous as many would believe. The magik must create a small nexus of energy that the caster must place about himself. The energy is focused by the caster, upon casting, and “aimed” in a chosen direction. Once cast, the nexus transmigrates the spellcaster, as far as it can. Speeds often vary, though the effect is similar in all cases.
TELEPORT (3) Component: Gesture – right index, middle and thumb aligned upright, other fingers folded. Hand makes complete circle, then snap fingers. Duration: 10 seconds Range: Caster only Special Marker: Bright blue cloth 18” square Spell allows Caster to attempt to escape any sticky situation they might be in. While TELEPORTING, Caster is invisible, intangible, and untraceable. Bright blue cloth must be held overhead for duration of spell. No other spells may be cast by or against the Caster while TELEPORTING. DISPEL MAGIK has no effect.
I predict this spell to be the single most useful self-preservatory spell that I have learned.
I spent a brief time with Daemir and other allies. During this time, we participated in an experiment to travel to another dimension. However, the only way we could travel was to pass through the realm of Dreams. Therefore, only our astral forms arrived within this dimension. During this “Dream” I encountered many interesting individuals, including, if memory serves (due to the nature of Dreams it can be difficult to have all the facts correct), a man named Brax.
I saw him cast a spell of lightning unlike the lightning bolts I have seen. This spell remained upon the hand and harmed the next being he touched. This inspired me to learn another form of magikal attack. I was somewhat capable with my limitation of a Fyrebolt, however, we encountered creatures that even magikal fire would not harm. This Lightning Touch shall prove to be effective when the fyre fails.
SHOCK TOUCH (3) Component: Verbal – “Elektricus Digitum” Duration: Instant Range: Touch Spell causes Caster’s hands to be surrounded by magikal energy. Magikal field does not cause Caster any damage.
By TOUCH, Caster causes TWO points of damage. Once caster touches anything, spell is used up. The type of MAGIK TOUCH is selected by the Caster (e.g. FIRE TOUCH, ICE TOUCH, LIGHTNING TOUCH, etc.) Each type of MAGIK TOUCH must be purchased separately.
During a short interim I had the chance to return to Karandia, after the extraction of Cyrus from the hands of the Dominians in Gherin Culloch.
I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to study in the libraries of my home once again. Wythe my position as a member of the Concentric Order, along with a writ from the Griffin of Magik, I was able to access the Libraries of the Mountains for further magikal learning.
I had ideas of spells that I knew existed that could be of great help in the upcoming times.
The first such spell was a variation on the spell to magically transport one’s self. Further research indicates that it is also referred to as “Razfunt’s Shift,” created by the Rynith Court Wizard.
I have located the texts concerning such a spell, though I find the notes and writings of Wendell Culpepper to be terribly off-base in the theory. My version of the spell utilizes the spell of magikal matter transmigration and translates the magikal direction into additional time by means of Alphonse Derband’s “practical magikal element formula.”
In removing the directional force of the magik, and translating it directly to more time, the caster breaks the fabric of magik and the physical plane and is slipped from this plane into a limbo/magikal plane for the duration of the spell. During this time, the intended target is completely removed from our reality for a matter of 1 turn of the minute glass.
So far, no experimentation has been successful lengthening the spell. In fact, all attempts have met with failure and the complete
loss of the target into the stream of the magikal well.
SHIFT (4) Component: Gesture – left hand index is straight, remaining fingers and thumb form a circle. Wrist rotates 180 degrees and changes to left hand index and thumb form circle and remaining fingers extended together. Duration: 1 minute* Range: Touch Special Marker: Bright blue cloth 18” square Spell renders ONE target invisible, intangible, and untraceable. The target is in effect teleported, but cannot move from the original spot of casting. It is as if no time passes for the target. At the end of the duration, the target will reappear in the same exact spot. DISPEL MAGIK has no effect. Spirits, fey, and other intangible creatures (e.g. ghosts, etc.) are unaffected by this spell *The duration of this spell cannot be lengthened or shortened by any means. Bright blue cloth must be held overhead for duration of spell.
During my travels I had oft encountered spells that were able to defy the normal period of magik time constraints.
While in the field, I was unable to construct or learn this magikal application of power from research or others. I have observed the usefulness of such a magikal alteration.
Fortunately, once again having access to the Libraries of my homeland, I have uncovered the necessary elements to learn the spell to potentially lengthen the effect of a neutral spell forever.
Alphonse Derband’s practical magikal element formula once again…
PERMANENCY (9) Component: Verbal – “Inifitum Magikum Duratis” Exception: 1x/day Duration: Instant Range: Touch Spell causes a previously cast spell to become PERMANENT. Any effects the Target suffers will continue, as per the previous spell’s description. What will negate the normal spell will also negate the PERMANENT spell. (i.e. a character who is permanently INVISIBLE will remain so until they attack another character.) There are three ways to dispel PERMANENCY: 1)DISPEL MAGIK + PERMANENCY 2)6DISPEL MAGIK spells from a single Caster 3) Counter Spell + PERMANENCY (e.g. AWAKEN + PERMANENCY) PERMANENCY can only be cast in conjunction with AGE LIMB, AMOUR, BLIND, CHARM, COVET, CURSE, CURSE ITEM, ENCHANT ARMOUR, ENCHANT ITEM, ENCHANT WEAPON, ENHANCE ARMOUR, ENHANCE ITEM, ENHANCE WEAPON, EVIL ESSENCE, FEAR, FLEE, FORGET, HOLD, INCITE, INOCULATE, INVISIBILITY, INVISIBLE AREA, LIE, LIGHT, PERFECT ARMOUR, PERFECT ITEM, PERFECT WEAPON, PERMEATE, PURIFY FOOD/DRINK/VESSEL, QUEST, RECOLLECTION, REPEL LESSER UNDEAD, ROOT, SYGIL, SILENCE, SLEEP, SPEAK WYTHE DEAD/LESSER UNDEAD, SPEAK WYTHE MONSTERS, TAME, TRUTH, VOID MAGIK, WARD, and WEB.
Though the spell is not without its limits, it is certainly a very powerful and useful spell for field applications. I look forward to using it.
En route back home to Karandia from the Celt Isle, I had the opportunity to study a rare magikal specimen. It seems that the creatures called the Aadkar are quite magikal. I discovered that though they are not all identical (nor are they all similar enough to draw sweeping conclusions, it would seem) they all have immunities to certain magiks. A thought had occurred to me while studying the remains of the Aadkar that was recovered during the extraction of Cyrus. I sought o uncover a spell that could duplicate immunity to certain magiks.
The best result I could locate and learn is a spell of temporary immunity. Sadly, however, it is no true immunity. In order to benefit from the protection of the magikal immunization, one must still suffer the effects of the spell. Still, I hope to explore the practical application of this spell.
INOCULATE (2) Component: Gesture - Left hand, palm away from body at chest level, fingers and thumb form circle, little finger extended, hand moves in a backwards "S" pattern. Duration: 1 hr. or DISPEL MAGIK Range: Touch For its duration, this spell protects the Target from the effect of a single specified spell. At the time of casting, the Caster must cast both INOCULATE and the spell from which the Target will be protected. At this time, the Target suffers the full effects of the spell he/she is INOCULATED against. The Caster can only INOCULATE against spells that he/she has. INOCULATION must be specific. (i.e. an ICE BOLT INOCULATION protects only against ICE BOLT and no other MAGIK BOLT spells.) INOCULATION has no effect against HAVEN, physical MAGIK WALLS, VOID MAGIK, WARD or WARD ITEM.
During my winter back in Traau, I have been in discussions with several mages. Many field mages expressed a particular interest and theorized a definite advantage to have a mage-mark placed upon a companion. I had spent hours of discussion one night with comrades of mine from “Theory.” My mind was made up; the benefits to having one’s own mage-mark is obvious and of significant tactical advantage.
SYGIL (14) Component: Gesture – drawing the mark of the sygil with the right index Casting Time: 30 seconds. Target must be immobile. Duration: 1 hr. or until secondary spell is cast through the SYGIL or ERASE SYGIL Range: Touch RangeofEffect: Line of Sight/Range of Hearing to Target/Written Note Marker: Rune or sygil for Target to wear and a Spell Description Card bearing all spell information and the Caster's name. SYGIL must be on a body part that can be bared publicly, that is not indecent. Limitation: Caster may only have one SYGIL cast at one time. Target may only have one SYGIL cast upon them at a time. Subsequent SYGILS cast on Target have no effect. Spell allows Caster to cast one touch or ranged spell on one specific Target, no matter how far apart the Caster and Target are. SYGIL must be cast upon a Character. Spell caster must know the Target's birth or true name in order for the spell to take effect. Caster must incorporate the Target's name into the process of casting the spell. Once cast, the Target is marked by the Caster. The SYGIL is a visible sygil or rune specific to the Caster, which appears magikally on the Target's body (not costume or items) and is indicated by the Marker. The SYGIL will appear on the Target, where the Caster indicates. Caster must provide the Target with the Marker and Spell Description Card. Once marked, Caster may cast one spell that affects the Target as long as Target can be made aware of the spell being cast (either through sight, hearing or note). For the Caster to operate the SYGIL, the Caster must state the name of the Target followed by normal spell casting procedure. SYGIL does not allow Target to affect others, only the Target is affected. If Target is within a WARD, and the Caster of the SYGIL is not, the Target cannot be affected by spells cast through the SYGIL. SYGIL will be ineffective if the Target is within a VOID MAGIK area. Protective magiks do not protect against spells cast through the SYGIL. If SYGIL is made PERMANENT, Caster may cast as many spells as desired on Target. DETECT MAGIK makes the SYGIL apparent and obviously readable to the Caster of DETECT MAGIK. COMPREHEND MAGIK will allow a Caster to read the Spell Description Card. DISPEL MAGIK has no effect. SYGIL can cause the following spells to affect the Target: AGE LIMB, AMOUR, ANIMATE DEAD, AWAKEN, BEFUDDLE, BLEND, BLESS, BLIND, CHARM, COMMAND, COVET, CURE BLINDNESS, CURSE, DANCE, DISPEL MAGIK, DRAGON'S BREATH, DRAIN ENERGY, DRAIN LIFE, EMPOWER, ENDURE, EXHAUSTION, FEAR, FEIGN DEATH, FYRST STRIKE, FLEE, FORGET, FREEZE, FUMBLE, HEAL, HOLD, HOLDE MONSTER, INTERROGATE, INVISIBILITY, ITCH, LAUGHTER, LIE, MAGE ARMOR, MAGIKAL ENHANCEMENT, MAGIK SHIELD, MAGIK TOUCH, NAUSEA, PAIN, PETRIFY, POISON, PURIFY BLOOD, QUEST, REFLECT, REMOVE CURSE, REMOVE QUEST, REPEL LESSER UNDEAD, REPULSE, RESTORE LIMB, ROOT, SHARE, SHIELD, SHIELD OF DEITY, SILENCE, SLEEP, SPEAK W/DEAD/UNDEAD, SPEAK W/MONSTERS, TAME, TREE, TRUE SIGHT, TRUTH and UNPETRIFY.
The last spell that I set myself to learn before I left Karandia once more for the Concentric Order was brought to my attention by some of my allies fighting on the Icaran front.
The spell enables one to postpone effects on your target until a specific event takes place. With the other spells, I have amassed and my current amount of theoretical knowledge, the concepts and mechanics of the spell were actually quite elementary.
TRIGGER (7) Exception: 2x/day Component: Verbal - “Magikum Suspendi Eventarim Enactis” Duration: 24 hrs. or DISPEL MAGIK Range: Touch Once cast upon a living subject, the Caster must immediately cast another spell upon the same Target. This second spell will not take effect until a time or event specified by the Caster occurs. The "TRIGGER event" must be easily recognizable without a timepiece, such as "at sunset" or "when you shake hands with the Duke". Once the TRIGGER event occurs, the second spell takes effect as if it had just been cast upon the Target. A Target may have only one TRIGGER spell cast upon them at any one time. If a subsequent TRIGGER is cast, the new spells take the place of the first. If DISPEL MAGIK is cast, the spell TRIGGER will be negated causing the second spell to take effect immediately.
Another winter in Traau, this time, after my encounter with Razfunt. I have considered the need for more spells useful in the field. I am far from a combat mage, and more aligned to the support and research after the battle. So, I have chosen to supplement my current spells. With only a brief time before leaving, I have chosen only three somewhat simple spells.
To be able to move about unseen is a spell that I have “seen” used oft. I have also had the spell cast upon me and I know its value.
INVISIBILITY (3) Component: Verbal – “Obscurum Ocularis” Duration: 5 min. or Until Caster makes a hostile action or Dispel Magik Range: Target w/Cloth and with Consumption of Potion/Powder (if applicable) Special Marker: White Cloth approximately 18” square. White cloth must be held above the Target's head for duration of spell. Cloth can be draped over an object to make an object Invisible. Target is unable to be seen by other Characters. If Target makes ANY offensive action, the spell is negated. Target will still be audible and leave tracks. If Target casts any other spells while Invisible, spell will be broken.
Another well used spell allows the caster to be protected from all physical harm. The Magikal field, similar to the spell that shields one from a single blow, deflects and dissipates the energy of the attack. The magik, however, allows spells of other nature to pass the magikal barrier.
MAGE ARMOR (4) Component: Gesture - Left hand, index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed, palm away. Hand rotates toward caster, changing to fist. Duration: 5 min. Range: Target w/Cloth Special Marker: Purple Cloth approximately 18" square. Caster creates a magikal armor that protects a Target from all physical and magikal damage causing attacks. Other spells still have effect. (e.g. Itch, Nausea, Root, etc.) Purple cloth must be held above the Target's head for the duration of spell. Target's hands must remain free (excluding component) for the duration of the spell. No other spells can be cast for the duration of the spell. Either of these actions will negate the spell. DISPEL MAGIK has no effect.
And finally, a spell that can place a false thought or remembrance in one's mind. This can be used on an enemy to work against him or on one's own mind as a protective against enemy questioning.
RECOLLECTION (3) Component: Verbal – “Installis Memoriam” Duration: 1 hr. or Dispel Magik Range: Touch Spell allows the Caster to instill a false memory into the mind of the Target. The Target will remember one specific thing that the Caster delineates. The Recollection must be described in a single verb sentence. “A horrible dragon chased you out of this cave.” Would work. “A horrible dragon took your magik sword, said ‘take that you scaleless fool’ then chased you out of this cave.” Would fail, because it contains three verbs. If the Caster attempts to affix the Recollection of something completely impossible or an act that is against the very nature of the Target, the spell fails. Otherwise, the Target’s other memories will fall in line with the affixed Recollection. Recollection does not counter Forget.
During my third trip to Somtow, I was accompanied by Cpl Connor MacLoren. While there, we continually encountered magikal barriers, also called Wards. Often, I was forced to enlist the aid of Connor or others to either open the ward or enter and retrieve items for me.
I decided it was time to learn a spell to allow one to circumvent wards. Connor possessed such a spell, and I learned from him. He performed an animalistic ritual to caste. Though I do not draw from nature, I was able to understand the nexi of energy’s that Connor was using, and grasp the meat of the spell.
PASS WARD (4)
Component: Gesture - Both hands, index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed, palm away. Circles are touching in front of face, touching Ward. Hands rotate toward caster and move outward. Duration: 5 min. Range: Touch (Caster) This spell allows the Target to pass through an individual Ward twice. Once going in and once going out, or vice-versa. To cast Pass Ward, the caster must be touching both the Target Ward and the Target character. Once the spell is cast, the Target character has 5 minutes to move through the Target Ward twice, then the spell wears off. Mage must touch Target to allow entrance to a
Ward and must be within one foot of the Target during exit. If having passed through the Target Ward once and the 5 minutes runs out, the second trip through cannot be made. Items carries on the person of the Target also pass through the Ward. Other living creatures cannot be carried through the Ward.

This sketch is based on story descriptions of the Eye:
large, clear stone,
said to be one hand width
inscription;
possibly a prayer to Creer
gold ornamentation and size of stone would create a vast weight, item would need be a decorative piece set in a pedestal or containing its own base
Various consortium sigils are
drawn upon the helm
The glyph upon the stone
possibly representing

Component: Gesture - Left hand, thumb crosses palm, fingers together, palm away from body (note: can use both hands for spell)
Duration: Instant
Range: 10 ft.
Component: Gesture - Left hand, palm away from body at chest level, moves in a backwards "S" pattern.
Duration: 10 min. or Until First Attack or DISPEL MAGIK
Range: Touch
Special: A Character can only have 2 of this spell cast on them at any given time.
Component: Gesture - Both hands in same shape: index finger and thumb make a circle, other fingers are splayed. Hands are back to back, 90˚ to each other, left hand toward chest, right hand facing outward.
Duration: 10 min.* or hit by Spell or Spell Ball
Range: Touch
Special: A Character can only have 2 of this spell cast on them at any given time.
Component: Verbal - "Helio-Focal"
Duration: 5 min.*
Range: Battery Strength
Marker: Flashlight
Spell enables Caster to call forth magikal LIGHT from a wand.
Component: Verbal -"Kwar-el Fôs-for"
Duration: Instant
Range: Spell ball
Spell ball must hit Target. No preparation is necessary; pull spell ball, state spell and throw. MAGIK BOLT causes TWO Points of damage regardless of type.
The type of BOLT is selected by the Caster. (e.g. FIRE BOLT, ICE BOLT, LIGHTNING BOLT, MUD BOLT, etc.)
Each type of BOLT must be purchased separately.
Component: Verbal – “Magikum Indikatus”
Gesture - left hand begins as fist, fingers towards right chest, hand moves in horizontal arc to left side of body, fingers opening.
Duration: Instant
Range: 10 ft.
Component: Gesture - Left hand, palm away from body at chest level, index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed, hand moves in a backwards "S" pattern.
Duration: 10 minutes* or DISPEL MAGIK
Range: Touch
Special: A Character can only have 2 of this spell cast upon them at any given time.
Component: Verbal: “Magikum Explicati”
Gesture – Left index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Circle and other fingers must touch item to be deciphered.
Duration: Instant
Range: Touch
Spell enables Caster to read magikally inscribed books (such as other magik-user's spell books), know what enchantments/magikal properties an item has and analyze magikal potions and powders.
Component: Verbal – “Magikum Explicati Noblis””
Gesture – Left index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Left circle and other fingers must touch item to be deciphered. Right index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Right circle and other fingers must touch temple.
Duration: Instant
Range: Touch
*Caster must have purchased DECIPHER MAGIK before they can purchase this spell.
Component: Verbal – “Magikum Explicati Noblis Transfera Digitaris”
Gesture - Right index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Right circle and other fingers must touch temple. Once verbal component is spoken, hand shape must touch the parchment to receive the spell.
Exception: 1x/Day
Duration: Instant
Range: Touch
Spell allows Caster to cast a spell into a scroll.
Component: Gesture – both hands in “thumb + index make circle” shape, circles interlocked. Hands pointed toward spell to be dispelled. Upon casting spell, break both circles.
Duration: Instant
Range: 10 ft.
Component: Verbal – “Ocularis Magikum”
Duration: 5 min. or DISPEL MAGIK
Range: Line of Sight
Spell allows Caster to see creatures that are polymorphed, illusory, invisible, blended, etc.
Simple.
Component: Gesture – Both hands; index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed. Circles are overlaid with right circle closer to body. Splayed respective fingertips are touching. Hands are near chest or chin level. Hands separate yet keep shape, left touches recipient at center chest, right touches self at center chest.
Duration: Instant
Range: Touch
Special Notes: Casting Points can ONLIE be shared with mages of the same category of magik.
Component: Gesture – Left index, pinky extended, thumb aligned with palm edge, middle and ring folded at second knuckle (to meet palm). Right hand (or wand) touches target.
Duration: Instant
Range: Touch
Special Notes*: Within spell the term “Mage” signifies a character that is either a full mage or multi-class mage who uses Purchase and Casting Points.
MAGIKAL ENHANCEMENT (7)
Component: Verbal – For range: “Duo-Magikum Distanus,” for duration: “Duo-Magikum Duratis,” for damage: “Duo-Magikum Destructi.”
Duration: Instant
Range Touch
Spell allows Caster to double the range OR duration OR amount of damage of any single spell by another mage of the same category of magik.
Component: Physical – small piece of slate, roughly shaped like a person. Must be held in hand.
Duration: 5 Minutes or UNPETRIFY
Range: Touch
Target is turned to stone.
Component: Gesture – Both hands open on opposing bicep, both hands stroke downward and out from body.
Duration: 1 minute or DISPEL MAGIK
Range: Touch
Spell endows Target with magikal strength.
Component: Gesture – right index, middle and thumb aligned upright, other fingers folded. Hand makes complete circle, then snap fingers.
Duration: 10 seconds
Range: Caster only
Special Marker: Bright blue cloth 18” square
Spell allows Caster to attempt to escape any sticky situation they might be in.
Component: Verbal – “Elektricus Digitum”
Duration: Instant
Range: Touch
Spell causes Caster’s hands to be surrounded by magikal energy. Magikal field does not cause Caster any damage.
By TOUCH, Caster causes TWO points of damage. Once caster touches anything, spell is used up.
The type of MAGIK TOUCH is selected by the Caster (e.g. FIRE TOUCH, ICE TOUCH, LIGHTNING TOUCH, etc.)
Each type of MAGIK TOUCH must be purchased separately.
Component: Gesture – left hand index is straight, remaining fingers and thumb form a circle. Wrist rotates 180 degrees and changes to left hand index and thumb form circle and remaining fingers extended together.
Duration: 1 minute*
Range: Touch
Special Marker: Bright blue cloth 18” square
Spell renders ONE target invisible, intangible, and untraceable. The target is in effect teleported, but cannot move from the original spot of casting. It is as if no time passes for the target. At the end of the duration, the target will reappear in the same exact spot.
DISPEL MAGIK has no effect.
Spirits, fey, and other intangible creatures (e.g. ghosts, etc.) are unaffected by this spell
*The duration of this spell cannot be lengthened or shortened by any means.
Component: Verbal – “Inifitum Magikum Duratis”
Exception: 1x/day
Duration: Instant
Range: Touch
Spell causes a previously cast spell to become PERMANENT. Any effects the Target suffers will continue, as per the previous spell’s description.
What will negate the normal spell will also negate the PERMANENT spell. (i.e. a character who is permanently INVISIBLE will remain so until they attack another character.)
There are three ways to dispel PERMANENCY:
1) DISPEL MAGIK + PERMANENCY
2) 6 DISPEL MAGIK spells from a single Caster
3) Counter Spell + PERMANENCY (e.g. AWAKEN + PERMANENCY)
PERMANENCY can only be cast in conjunction with AGE LIMB, AMOUR, BLIND, CHARM, COVET, CURSE, CURSE ITEM, ENCHANT ARMOUR, ENCHANT ITEM, ENCHANT WEAPON, ENHANCE ARMOUR, ENHANCE ITEM, ENHANCE WEAPON, EVIL ESSENCE, FEAR, FLEE, FORGET, HOLD, INCITE, INOCULATE, INVISIBILITY, INVISIBLE AREA, LIE, LIGHT, PERFECT ARMOUR, PERFECT ITEM, PERFECT WEAPON, PERMEATE, PURIFY FOOD/DRINK/VESSEL, QUEST, RECOLLECTION, REPEL LESSER UNDEAD, ROOT, SYGIL, SILENCE, SLEEP, SPEAK WYTHE DEAD/LESSER UNDEAD, SPEAK WYTHE MONSTERS, TAME, TRUTH, VOID MAGIK, WARD, and WEB.
Component: Gesture - Left hand, palm away from body at chest level, fingers and thumb form circle, little finger extended, hand moves in a backwards "S" pattern.
Duration: 1 hr. or DISPEL MAGIK
Range: Touch
For its duration, this spell protects the Target from the effect of a single specified spell.
At the time of casting, the Caster must cast both INOCULATE and the spell from which the Target will be protected. At this time, the Target suffers the full effects of the spell he/she is INOCULATED against. The Caster can only INOCULATE against spells that he/she has.
INOCULATION must be specific. (i.e. an ICE BOLT INOCULATION protects only against ICE BOLT and no other MAGIK BOLT spells.)
INOCULATION has no effect against HAVEN, physical MAGIK WALLS, VOID MAGIK, WARD or WARD ITEM.
Component: Gesture – drawing the mark of the sygil with the right index
Casting Time: 30 seconds. Target must be immobile.
Duration: 1 hr. or until secondary spell is cast through the SYGIL or ERASE SYGIL
Range: Touch
Range of Effect: Line of Sight/Range of Hearing to Target/Written Note
Marker: Rune or sygil for Target to wear and a Spell Description Card bearing all spell information and the Caster's name.
Exception: 2x/day
Component: Verbal - “Magikum Suspendi Eventarim Enactis”
Duration: 24 hrs. or DISPEL MAGIK
Range: Touch
Once cast upon a living subject, the Caster must immediately cast another spell upon the same Target.
Component: Verbal – “Obscurum Ocularis”
Duration: 5 min. or Until Caster makes a hostile action or Dispel Magik
Range: Target w/Cloth and with Consumption of Potion/Powder (if applicable)
Special Marker: White Cloth approximately 18” square.
Component: Gesture - Left hand, index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed, palm away. Hand rotates toward caster, changing to fist.
Duration: 5 min.
Range: Target w/Cloth
Special Marker: Purple Cloth approximately 18" square.
Caster creates a magikal armor that protects a Target from all physical and magikal damage causing attacks. Other spells still have effect. (e.g. Itch, Nausea, Root, etc.)
Purple cloth must be held above the Target's head for the duration of spell.
Component: Verbal – “Installis Memoriam”
Duration: 1 hr. or Dispel Magik
Range: Touch
Spell allows the Caster to instill a false memory into the mind of the Target.
Component: Gesture - Both hands, index and thumb form circle, remaining fingers splayed, palm away. Circles are touching in front of face, touching Ward. Hands rotate toward caster and move outward.
Duration: 5 min.
Range: Touch (Caster)
This spell allows the Target to pass through an individual Ward twice.
